On December 4, 2024, the Asia Pacific Development Center on Disability (APCD) participated in the annual International Disability Day event, which took place at the Royal Jubilee Ballroom in Muang Thong Thani. The event, themed "Amplifying the Leadership of Persons with Disabilities for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future," highlighted the crucial role of disability leadership in creating a more equitable society.

Mr. Piroon Laismit, the APCD Executive Director, joined other disability advocates and government officials in commemorating this significant day. Among the notable attendees were Mr. Warawut Silpa-archa, Minister of Social Development and Human Security, Mr. Anukul Peedkaew, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, and Mr. Chokchai Wichiancharya, Director-General of the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities.

The event brought together a diverse network of disability organizations, government representatives, and international stakeholders to promote understanding and support for persons with disabilities. Ms. Michaela Friberg-Storey, the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Thailand, was also present, delivering an international message of solidarity.

Highlights of the event included:

  • A keynote address by Mr. Warawut Silpa-archa

APCD continues to play a critical role in promoting the rights, opportunities, and leadership of persons with disabilities across the Asia-Pacific region. The organization remains committed to supporting inclusive policies, capacity building, and creating opportunities for persons with disabilities to thrive in all aspects of society.

The event underscored the importance of moving beyond mere inclusion to actively amplifying the leadership and potential of persons with disabilities, aligning perfectly with APCD's mission of empowerment and social transformation.
