On the morning of 26th December 2004, the world witnessed one of the deadliest natural disasters in recent history 9.1 magnitude earthquake in the Indian Ocean that triggered massive tsunami waves, devastating Asian coastal communities across thousands of miles. This tragedy was a wake-up call, reminding us of the immense power of nature and the importance of preparedness.

• More than 227,000 people died across 15 countries.
• Over 1. 6 million people displaced.

    In the two decades since, significant strides have been made in understanding and mitigating the risks of tsunamis. Here's a glimpse into some of the global efforts:

As we commemorate this milestone, it’s crucial to acknowledge that persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups face heightened risks during disasters due to their exclusion from Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) processes. Inclusive DRR initiatives are essential to ensure no one is left behind.
