Course Title: Disability  Development: Toward an Inclusive Development:

Introduction:

Asia-Pacific Development Center on Disability (APCD) in collaboration with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Disability Equality Training (DET) Forum will hold two (2) online courses on Disability & Development:

Open Learning Course (Introductory Course): This is an open course for everyone those who are interested in learning basics of Disability & Development. This includes one-day online live seminar (4th June 2024: 11:00 – 13:00 [11AM – 1PM] in Thailand [GMT+7]). Free of charge.

Advanced Training Course: This is a training course to learn disability & development comprehensively. This includes 5-day online live schooling (4th, 17th, 20th, 24th, 27th June: 11:00 – 13:00 [11AM – 1PM] in Thailand [GMT+7]). Attendance of all online schooling and submission of learning tasks are the compulsory conditions for the certificates of completion. This is a charged course (US Dollar 150 per person). This Course aims to develop perspectives/frameworks for analysis and action for inclusive development. This course does not include theme-specific contents, e.g. education, employment, health, etc. Day-1 (Module 1) of this course is same as Open Learning Course.

6. Online Platform for Learning & Follow up

Advanced Training Course will use a Google Chat Space as an online learning platform to provide course materials, share information, etc. You must submit your google account (Gmail address) when you apply to the course.

7. Expected Participants

Open Learning Course: 30 participants those who are working in disability and/or development programs in Asia and Pacific region.

Advanced Training Course: 15 participants those who have been working in the field of disability and development more than 5 years, especially on inclusive development in Asia and Pacific region.

9. Resource Person:

Dr. Kenji KUNO:

He is a senior advisor on social protection (especially Disability & Development) for the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), which is the Japanese government’s agency for an international development. He has been working in the field of disability and development over thirty-five years, especially on Disability Education (Disability Equality Training: DET), livelihood (supported employment), and Community Based Inclusive Development (CBID) in the Southeast Asian region and the world. He obtained Ph.D. in Development Studies from the University of East Anglia, United Kingdom. He is also a visiting professor of Nihon Fukushi University (Japan) in charge on postgraduate courses (Master and Doctorate degrees) on disability and development for over twenty years. He is a founding director of DET Forum (www.detforum.com).

He is currently dispatched to the Asia-Pacific Development Center on Disability (APCD) as an advisor on disability & development.

His publications in English are: Doing Disability Equality Training (2012, MPH Publishing), Job Coach Handbook (co-editor, 2012, MPH Publishing), Does Community Based Rehabilitation Really Work? (2007, Institute Social Malaysia Research Monograph No. 5), and so on.
