Empowerment Cafe on Disability (E-Cafe) Renewal!
Empowerment Cafe on Disability (E-Cafe) is a platform to promote information and knowledge exchange on disability and development in Asia and the Pacific. Different perspectives: sub-region (Southeast Asia, South Asia, Central Asia, Pacific and East Asia) and persons with diverse disabilities, including persons with intellectual, learning and developmental disabilities, persons with autism are addressed at the E-Cafe. Information on disability and development in the Asia and Pacific region is provided through E-Cafe on a daily basis. Participating networks/organizations are as follows:

Civil Society Organization (CSO) Working Group Meeting on Incheon Strategy

The Civil Society Organization (CSO) Working Group Meeting on Incheon Strategy was organized in the Republic of Korea on 6-7 August 2012. APCD participated in the meeting to share with other stakeholders the “Joint Inputs for the draft ministerial declaration on the Asian and Pacific Decade of Persons with Disabilities, 2013-2022, and the draft Incheon strategy to make the right real for persons with disabilities in Asia and the Pacific”, developed by the following organizations/networks.

The joint inputs were well reflected in the paper jointly submitted to the United Nations Economic Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) by APCD and other CSOs.
First Graduation Ceremony / Second Residency Program for the Institute on Disability and Public Policy for the ASEAN Region (IDPP)
IDPP Students, American University Staff and APCD
APCD has been supporting the Institute on Disability and Public Policy for the ASEAN Region (IDPP). As the official ceremony by the American University, the graduation ceremony for the first IDPP cohort was organized at the Mahidol University in Thailand on 14 August 2012. In total 7 students with disabilities (1 from Cambodia, 6 from the Philippines) completed their study this time. The second IDPP cohort exchanged with APCD through one of the residency program sessions, to share the perspective on disability and development in ASEAN countries mainly.
Establishment of Hard of Hearing and Deafened in Nepal
The Asia-Pacific Regional Workshop on Hard of Hearing and Deafened was established through the regional workshop in March 2012. The representatives who are Hard of Hearing and Deafened from Bangladesh, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, the Philippines, Papua New Guinea, Thailand, and Vietnam founded the regional network named Asia-Pacific Federation of the Hard of Hearing and Deafened (APFHD).
According to Ms. Neeta Keshary Bhattarai and Mr. Maheswor Ghimire who are the participants of the regional workshop in March 2012, the National Association of Hard of hearing and Deafened Nepal (SHRUTI) has been established recently in Nepal. Ms. Neeta Keshary Bhattarai will be the President of SHURTI while Mr. Maheswor Ghimire will be the Vice President of SHURTI.
